Child Dedication

A Child Dedication service is an opportunity for parents/grandparents to publicly declare their intent to raise their child in a way that honors God and also give the child the opportunity to eventually have a personal relationship with Jesus. In many ways a "child dedication" service is truly a “ parent/grandparent dedication" service, as parents and grandparents publicly declare to raise their child in the faith until the child is old enough to make his own personal confession of Christ. It's also a time for family, friends, and the church body here at Rosemont to say we will partner with you, as best we can, to see that this takes place.

Child Dedication is not infant baptism. It does not indicate or assure salvation. While baptism or christening are a significant rite of passage for infants in a variety of faiths, we believe the Bible teaches that baptism is reserved for those who have already made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, and are old enough to grasp the role of baptism as an outward symbol of their faith.

Child Dedication is an opportunity for any parents and or grandparent to stand before God and dedicate themselves to raising their child in a Godly environment regardless of church membership.

Here is Scripture where there is a precedent for the dedication of a child?

  • Hannah presented her son, Samuel, to the Lord in Shiloh. (1 Samuel 1:11)

  • Jesus was dedicated to God. (Luke 2:22)

  • Jesus allowed little children to come to Him for His blessing. (Matthew 19:13-15)
